Fair trade markets offer parishioners an opportunity to purchase food, decor, and gift items that give small-scale global artisans, farmers, and other enterprises sustainable work, income, skills training, and a vision of hope for themselves, their families, and their communities.
Saint Anne partners with several Alternative Trade Organizations (ATOs) including Catholic Relief Services and their partners, SERRV International and Equal Exchange. Our Fair Trade Committee also works with Denver-based Women’s Bean Project, a food manufacturing business tied directly to a transitional employment program for women who are chronically unemployed.
Objectives of the Saint Anne Catholic Church Fair Trade sales:
CREATE EMPLOYMENT
PAY FAIR WAGES
ENCOURAGE SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES
SUPPORT COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
A small amount of profit is accrued with each Fair Trade Market. These monies are given over each year to Faithjustice to cover garden supplies and other parish initiatives such as the Youth Ministry’s summer mission trip.
